What is the data act?The Data Act (EU Regulation 2023/2854) is designed to give the EU users of connected products and related services, and in specific circumstances third parties in the EU, access to the data generated by connected products such as connected vehicles. In the context of connected vehicles, Data Act facilitates access to product data generated by the use of a connected vehicle not only for its drivers, but also for third-party repairers and maintenance providers, and other parties authorised by the user of a connected vehicle. Connected vehicle owners can decide who has access to data generated by their use of such products, and the option to request that the data holder make available their data to third parties.
The data holder of the data collected by Lynk & Co cars is Lynk & Co International AB with its registered address at Planetgatan 6, 417 55 Göteborg, Sweden.
Below you will find an overview of the type, format and estimated volume of product of product data that can be generated by Lynk & Co vehicles.
Type of data
A Lynk & Co connected vehicle can generate the various types of data, depending on vehicle’s settings, optional equipment, and the status of mobile network coverage. The following categorization gives an overview of the type, format and estimated volume of product of product data which Lynk & Co vehicles can generate:
- ECU Signal Data: it comprises the signals sourced from various ECUs and sensors across the vehicle. These signals offer detailed insights into the vehicle’s operational state, performance metrics (mileage, speed, etc.), environmental conditions, and interactions with external systems.
- Remote Vehicle Status (RVS) Data: it refers to the set of information about vehicle's current condition and state that can be accessed remotely. It describes the condition of the vehicle and its components when they are used (usage data), including geolocation, mileage, power consumption, status of lights, safety and alerts, etc.
- OTA SW Upgrade Data: it refers to the information and processes related to remotely delivering, installing, and managing software updates for a vehicle’s electronic control units (ECUs), infotainment system, or other onboard software. Only the final result of each update is retained.
- Vehicle Diagnostic Data: Refers to information retrieved from a vehicle’s onboard systems, either directly through diagnostic interfaces or remotely via telematics, to monitor, analyse and assess the vehicle’s health and performance.
The product data described above is available in the following formats
Estimated volume of data generated by a Lynk & Co vehicle
Depending on usage (based on the selected use cases), between 1 – 1,5 GB per month. The volume of data can vary depending on individual vehicle features, parameters, and services used. All Lynk & Co vehicles can generate product data continuously and in near real-time.
Data Storage
All Lynk & Co vehicles can store product data on-device and on a remote server in accordance with the below:
- The data generated in the vehicle is not fully transmitted and stored on the server. In this regard, only the necessary volume of data is transmitted to our EU remote servers, for example for the provision of specific digital services.
- The data transmission from the vehicle to our servers may be affected by the mobile network (ex. irregularities in mobile coverage might affect the real-time data transmission).
- The period of data storage on our EU Cloud depends on the type of the data, and on the service. It can range from a minimum of 3 months to the lifetime of the connected vehicle plus two years.
